Hibanobambusa tranquillans ‘Shiroshima’ bamboo

Original price was: 35,00 €.Current price is: 30,00 €.

Hibanobambusa tranqiuillans ‘Shiroshima’ is extremely cold hardy and easily  withstands freezing winter temperatures. It can survive temperatures under 20°C without severe damage. If it does get damaged during harsh winter, you can easily cut it down to the soil level and wait for it to resprout. It grows well in most types of soil. It thrives in sunny position, but it doesn’t mind growing in more shaded positions. It can grow up to around 5m tall with culms below 2cm in diameter. Due to its exceptionally large leaves and relatively thin culms, it has a strong weeping habit. It tolerates pruning exceptionally well.

Because of its relatively aggressive spreading, root containment is highly recommended. Unlike most Phyllostachys bamboos, its rhizomes are mostly located near the surface, making them somewhat easier to restrict.

The bamboo is also suitable for indoor environment. With enough available light, it can thrive as a houseplant.

Available bamboos are categorized by their size, age, and pot size.

Hibanobambusa tranquillans ‘Shiroshima’ is believed to be a hybrid of Phillostachys nigra ‘Henon’ and Sasa veitchii. This running bamboo showcases slender, upright culms adorned with large elegant leaves featuring unique white variegation. Despite being running bamboo, its roots usually run just below the soil level and can be controlled easier than other aggressive runners. As a hybrid, ‘Shiroshima’ combines the best characteristics of its parent species, resulting in a bamboo with exceptional aesthetic appeal.  Bamboo has a moderate growth rate and a tendency to form dense clumps, it serves as both an ornamental and functional addition, providing privacy screens or enhancing the aesthetic appeal of outdoor spaces. This bamboo variety is well-suited for various climates and is prized for its resilience and adaptability. It grows in all soil types and doesn’t mind being confined in a large container. Unlike other temperate bamboos, it can grow inside as an indoor plant.
